I've had conversations with most of my girlfriends over the years about how they can't wait to have a home big enough to house a dedicated, "man cave". In other words, an allocated place to store all of your significant others
ugly beloved possessions. Things like sports paraphernalia, gaming systems, and that terrible (but admittedly comfortable) lounge chair for endless hours of sports observation are a few of many culprits. Masculine design has definitely gotten a bad rep (just think of all those horrible bachelor pads with too much leather). But ladies, it doesn't have to be this way! There are plenty of ways to create a stylish, sophisticated and elegant space that would make any man feel comfortable.
Creating a thoughtful media centre (with plenty of built in and concealed storage) and using nicely tailored and comfortable upholstery are a good place to start. You also might want to consider incorporating some natural materials and textures, using more subdued colour palettes and more streamlined (and gender neutral) accessories. Following these guidelines is a great way to create a space you will both want to spend time in. I know it's hard to believe, but take a look at some of the spaces below and maybe I can change your mind.
Stay tuned for my next blog post which will shop the look with some of my favourite masculine decor items.
