Kiss those doorknobs goodbye Vancouver!
Lots of talk in Vancouver's design community lately has been surrounding the recently passed city by-law requiring new homes (even custom homes for personal use) to include a number of accessibility features. This means wider stairways, doors and hallways, higher outlets and levered doors. While I admire the city for trying to make Vancouver more accessible, all of these features will certainly create huge changes in space planning and the cost of construction. The change that is arguably receiving the most attention is the banishment of doorknobs. As a designer, I have to say that it will be really difficult to see door knobs go, especially with all of the beautiful new and vintage options out there. Anticipating this change (which will be enacted in early 2014) I decided to take a look for some inspiring and amazing levers to prepare myself with an arsenal of good options to specify for clients. Here are some photos that got me excited!
